How Great You Are, O Son of the Desert! takes as a point of departure the infamous head-butt by French midfielder Zinedine Zidane on Italian defender Marco Materazzi, in the final match of the FIFA World Cup in Germany in 2006. Based on preliminary reports that the Italian had called Zidane the “son of a terrorist whore” the work briefly explores Zidane’s act as an Improvised Explosive Device, to then move on to a more likely supposition: Zidane was not exploding a car, he was setting his Audi endorsement deal ablaze.
